Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Bonjes ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use JesType, our desktop speech-to-text application, and our website and services.

2. Data We Collect

We collect minimal data necessary to deliver and protect the service:

  • Email address. Stripe collects it at checkout. The app sends it when you start a free trial, and the website sends it when you ask for license recovery or a device-management link. We use it to deliver and recover license keys and to send those links.
  • Device fingerprint and device name. The app sends a locally generated identifier (a 64-character hex string) and your computer's name when it activates or checks a license. We use them to enforce your license's device limit (1, 3 or 6 devices, depending on the license) and to show your devices on the manage page.
  • IP address. Logged temporarily for rate limiting to prevent abuse of our API endpoints. Not used for tracking or analytics.

3. What Stays on Your Device

We do not receive your audio, your transcriptions or your dictation history.

  • Audio. Speech recognition runs on your computer with a speech model you download. JesType never sends audio anywhere, including when AI cleanup is on.
  • Transcriptions and history. These are stored in the app's data folder on your computer. In Settings, under Privacy & data, you choose whether JesType keeps the transcript and audio (the default), the transcript only, or nothing. You can also delete entries by age, cap saved audio storage, limit the number of entries, or remove all history. Transcript text leaves your computer only if you turn on cloud AI cleanup, described in section 4.
  • Keystrokes or clipboard content. JesType pastes transcriptions into your active application but does not log or transmit this data.
  • Usage analytics or telemetry. JesType has no tracking or analytics. The app does contact our license server to activate and check your license and to look for updates, and it contacts a model host to download a speech model. These requests carry the license and device details from section 2, never your dictation.

4. Optional AI Cleanup

AI cleanup is off by default. When you turn it on, JesType sends the text of each dictation to a language model that may fix punctuation, capitalization and spacing. It never sends audio.

  • Cloud provider. With OpenRouter (the default) or another HTTPS endpoint you enter, the transcript text and the cleanup instructions go to that provider under your own API key and account. We do not receive that text. The provider's terms and privacy policy decide how it is stored, used and charged. While cloud cleanup is on, Settings, under Privacy & data, says that dictated text goes to the provider.
  • Local server. If you pick the local option, JesType only connects to a numeric loopback address (127.0.0.1 or [::1]) on the same computer. The text does not leave your computer through JesType. What the local server does with it is up to that software.

Your API key is kept in your operating system's credential store, not in the settings file.

5. How We Use Your Data

  • License fulfillment. Your email is used to send your license key after purchase and for license recovery.
  • Device activation. Your device fingerprint and device name are stored to manage your activated devices, up to the limit of your license.
  • Rate limiting. Your IP address is used temporarily to prevent abuse of API endpoints.

6. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Stripe: payment processing. Stripe collects and processes your payment information directly; we never see or store your card details.
  • Resend: transactional email delivery for license keys, recovery emails and device-management links.
  • Cloudflare: website hosting, CDN, API infrastructure, and our speech model mirror at models.jesrecap.com.
  • GitHub: hosts the installers. If our model mirror fails, the app downloads the same model from blob.handy.computer instead. These hosts see your IP address when you download.
  • Your AI cleanup provider, only if you turn on cloud AI cleanup (section 4). You choose the provider and hold the account.

7. Data Storage

License data (email, license key, device fingerprints) is stored in Cloudflare D1, a serverless database hosted within the EU.

All application data, including settings, transcription history, statistics and speech models, is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers. The only dictation data that can leave your device is transcript text sent to a cloud AI cleanup provider you turn on yourself.

8. Your Rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion — request deletion of your personal data
  • Portability — request your data in a machine-readable format
  • Objection — object to processing of your data

9. Cookies

The JesType website does not use cookies for tracking or analytics. No third-party tracking scripts are loaded on our website.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via the website or email. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
